Beavers breeze past Clippers

MINOT, N.D. - Minot State University opened the game with a quick 10-0 run and never looked back as the No. 9 ranked Beavers raced to a 90-43 win over Briercrest College (Saskatchewan, Canada) in nonconference NAIA women’s basketball Monday at the MSU Dome.

The Beavers (14-3 overall) played 12 players and 11 scored. Minot State was paced by Kallie Erickson (G, Jr., Fordville, N.D.) who scored 13 points. Caroline Folven (C, Jr., Byron, Ill.) added 12 points and MacKenzie Mack (F, Sr., Scranton, N.D.) added 10 in the win.

MSU outscored Briercrest 53-17 in the first half, shooting 54.8 percent, including 7-for-15 shooting from beyond the arc. MSU hit 11 3s in the game, paced by Erickson’s three.

Briercrest’s Michelle Nieuwenhuis led all scorers with 14. Valerie Robinson and Brooke Olmstead led the Clippers with six rebounds. The Beavers forced Briercrest into 30 turnovers.

Ari Hendrix (G, Sr., Ventura, Calif.) and Sacarra Molina (F, Fr., Hinsdale, Mont.) each scored nine points, while Whitney Loftesnes (G, Jr., Velva) and Lauren Safranski (G, Fr., Burnsville, Minn.) added eight apiece for the Beavers. Adrianna Cordova (F, Jr., Green River, Utah) led MSU with eight rebounds and added six points, three assists and three steals. MSU finished with 19 steals as a team.
