2009-2010 Season Wrap Up

Team Picture

The Minot State Volleyball team have shown their ability to overcome adversity, on and off the court. The Beaver's season started off with a series of losses in tough preseason tournaments. Still, with the leadership of seniors Suzy Paradine, Kara Schumacher, Jill Locke, and Molly Lundeen the Beavers had full confidence that they could turn their season around. MSU showed they had what it took when they came back in season play with a huge 3-0 win over rival Dickinson State, at their first home game of the year. After this, the Beavers had a streak of wins at home, even taking number two ranked Black Hills State to five games in the dome. Although this game resulted in a loss, the Beavers were ready for the next challenge. The  Beavers had key players step up at important times, and found the drive they needed to succeed. Senior Molly Lundeen and freshman Abbey Aide both received honors for Libero of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively.

They came back to take two more conference wins and found themselves in good standing for playoffs. With the defensive skills of Shari Dueck, Emily Hoehn, and Kara Schumacher, the Beavers were able to be a very competitive team, even against big hitters. On the offensive side, Suzy Paradine and Leah Wesoloski were able to get huge kills to spur the momentum for the  Beavers. Equally as crucial in these big games was the blocking and smart ball placement of Janice Rose Reinbolt and her middle counterpart, Jori Fladeland.
The MSU Beavers were matched against number two ranked Black Hills State for their quarter-final playoff game, which took place in Spearfish, SD. This became the end of the season for MSU when BHSU won the quarter-final match 3-0. "Black Hill's is a very experienced team and everyone of their athletes was on," said Head Coach Johnna Lewis.

The Beavers will lose their four seniors Suzy Paradine, Kara Schumacher, Molly Lundeen, and Jill Locke. Luckily, with many of the younger players getting experience this year, the returning lineup is looking strong. Abbey Aide, setter, was named All Conference and DAC Freshman of the Year. Emily Hoehn, Shari Dueck, Janice-Rose Reinbolt, Jen Yausie and Sara Friesen will also be returning. Because of the responsibility placed on these young players this year, they will no doubt do well in the following seasons, and help lead MSU to many victories.
