MSU Track and Field Qualify Three at NSU Open

The Minot State Beavers opened up the outdoor track and field season by posting three NAIA qualifying marks. Alex Boyeff in the men's shot put, Drew Hysjulien in the men's triple jump and Josh Ming in the men's javelin.

Nick Banks also had an impressive day for the Beavers by winning the 100 and 200 meter dash with times of 11.06 and 22.2 respectively. Along with National Qualifying marks, Hysjulien also placed first in the High Jump with a leap of 6'4.”

Devin Hiller and Cody Goetz also had a good day in Aberdeen , SD. Hiller finished in second in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.63 and second in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.30. Goetz helped his team out by finishing second in the pole vault with a height of 14'6.”

On the women's side, Lashay Bagsby won the High Jump with a height of 5'2 ¼.” Bagsby also competed in the Long Jump, Shot Put and Javelin events.

Coach Stu Melby said, “It was a good start considering it was first outdoor meet and the conditions were pretty bad.”

The Beavers were plagued by cool temperatures and grueling wind throughout the day. The temperature at the start of the meet was 43 degrees, but the wind was strong and made it feel much colder. At one point during the meet the wind was to 26mph.
