NAIA National Indoor Track & Field Championships
The NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships will be
hosted in the Memorial Center Mini Dome in Johnson City , Tenn.
, March 6-8 th . This is the eighth consecutive year that they have
hosted this event. Over 900 athletes from 100 different NAIA schools
will compete.
The Minot State Beavers will be sending four athletes this season.
Last weekend at the DAC Championships Ulysses Dalton and Cody Goetz
set school records in the Heptathlon and Pole Vault respectively.
With this impressive effort, both Dalton and Goetz will be competing
at the National Championship. Cody Goetz is ranked 15 th in the
Pole Vault heading into the National Championships.
Dalton said, “I'm ready to compete and represent Minot State at
Nationals.” Not only is Ulysses excited to compete he is also thrilled
to have the opportunity to speak at an elementary school the day
before the National Tournament. “We are going to be speaking with
1 st , 2 nd and 3 rd graders about setting goals and what it takes
to achieve those goals, said Dalton . Dalton will enter the Championships
ranked 16 th Nationally in the Heptathlon.
Also headed to the National Championships will be Drew Hysjulien
and Jill Lockie. Hysjulien qualified in the Triple Jump and High
Jump with leaps of 46'2 ½” and 6'6” respectively. These marks
are good enough to lock Drew into a ranking of 15 th in the Triple
Jump and 20 th in the High Jump. Lockie qualified on the women's
side in the High Jump with a height of 5'3.”
“I'm excited to see the best athletes in the Nation and get a chance
to compete against them. The whole experience should be very exciting,”
said Jill Lockie.
Last year Azusa Pacific University ( Calif. ) won its fifth men's
indoor track and field title and Oklahoma Baptist claimed its second
women's victory.
