Concordia Cobber Duel

At last weekend's Concordia Cobber Duel the Minot State Men's and
Women's Track and Field Team gave another promising performance.
MSU finished the meet with nine personal bests as well as five season
bests.
On the women's side, Amanda Warnett had a strong run in the 200M
for a 3rd place finish. Following right behind her was Fern Parker
and Chelsey Lazier. Lazier also placed 5th in the 60M Dash.
Lauren Dietrich ran a time of 2:38.68 in the 800M for a third place
finish finished 9th in the mile with a time of 5:52.33. There were
7th place finishes for Sam Rogers in the 600M and Kristen Wiebe
in the 1000M. Amanda LaFountain found her legs in the 3000M placing
third with a time of 11:06.07.
MSU's relay team also found successin the 4x200M and the 4x400M.
Fern Parker, Alissa Klose, Chelsey Lazier and Amanda Warnett work
together for a 4th place finish in the 4x200M. Then Fern Parker,
Amanda Warnett, Lauren Dietrich and Sam Rogers combined for a time
of 4:25.12 in the 4x400M which resulted in a 3rd place finish.
In the jumps, Jill Lockie placed 2nd in the High Jump followed
closely by Ciara Klein, who finished 4th. Alissa Klose placed 5th
in the Triple Jump and 8th in the Long Jump.
MSU throwers also put up good numbers in the shot and weight throw.
Jenny Castro, who is off to a great start this season, placed 2nd
in the shot put with a throw of 38'5 1/2". Casey Seltvedt placed
6th in the weight throw with a throw of 38'8 1/4".
Jenny Castro also competed in her first ever Pentathlon on January
25th, 2008. Castro had an impressive 4th place finish scoring 2224
total points.
On the men's side, Head Coach Stu Melby said, "Nick Banks
had another strong meet for us and this was a meet that saw much
improvement within both the men's and women's teams."
Nick Banks had a second place finish in the 60M Dash. Julius Ceasar
and Adrian Smith also competed in the 60M Dash and placed 6th and
14th respectively.
Darwin Schwartz and Bruno Espinoza finished the 400M, Scwartz with
a time of 53.31 and Espinoza with a 55.4. Devin Hiller had a time
2:03.27 in the 800M for a third place finish.
Senior Drew Hysjulien, had a great finish in the high jump with
a jump of 5'10 1/2" for a 2nd place finish. Not only does Cody
Goetz hurdle, but he competes hard in the pole vault for Minot State
and this last weekend finished 4th with a vault of 13'01/4".
Alex Boyeff finished third in the shot put with a throw of 45'9".
Gino Maxi, Kyle Kimbrough and Ulysses Dalton also competed in the
shot. Gino Maxi and Kyle Kimbrough also threw the weight 33'2 1/2"
and 32'7" respectively.
Along with Jenny Castro, Eric Sheppard also competed in his first
ever Pentathlon scoring 2627 total points.
"People are improving and we are continuing to build for the
Conference meet and for our outdoor season," said Melby.
The Beavers will be heading to Fargo this weekend for the Bison
Open.
