Super 8 Bemidji Meet

The Minot State Track & Field team had a very impressive opening this past weekend at the Bemidji Meet. Head Coach Stu Melby said, “I was very happy with this meet and the performance of all of our athletes. I believe it's a great start to a great season.”

It all started Friday with Josh Ming and Cody Goetz of MSU competing in their first ever Heptathlon. Josh Ming finishes the Heptathlon in sixth place and Cody Goetz in eighth.

The Women's team had a great start with many individuals placing and putting up great numbers. Senior Jenny Castro helped to lead the way with an NAIA National Qualifying throw in the Shot Put. Jenny threw 41'3 ¾”. Julia Williams, Casey Seltvedt and Melissa Barbour were all able to throw great distances as well in the weight throw.

Transfer student, Jill Lockie, finished in a tie for 5th in the high jump and Alissa Klose had a strong day in the long and triple jump with distances of 15'4” and 33'3” respectively.

On the Men's side, it was another impressive start. Nick Banks won the 55M Dash. MSU athlete Johnny Lester took second in the 55M and Adrian Smith also placed in this race.

Julius Ceasar had a very successful day finishing 4th in the 200M Dash with a time of 23.50. Darwin Schwartz also finished 4th in the 600M Run with a time of 1:26.19.

In the Long Jump, Eric Sheppard was able to leap 20'10 ¾” and Alex Boyeff had a throw of 44'8” in the shot put for a 6th place finish.

“It was a great way to start our season. A variety of our athletes were able to perform and have shown great improvement since last season,” said Stu Melby .
