Expenses

Program Fee: $250 per semester
Students will be required to pay a $250 fee that it is assessed each semester of the academic year that the student is enrolled in courses including the summer semester regardless if HPER courses are taken or not. The program fee helps to offset the costs of professional clothing for the program (1 Polo and 2 t-shirts), name tags for identification, a sports medicine kit, a Ther Ex Notes Clinical Pocket Guide, a Sports Notes Clinical Pocket Guide, student membership fees for NATA and NDATA, ATRACK fees, ACES training workshop for seniors, annual recertification in First Aid and CPR, expendable supplies, teaching lab equipment purchasing and upkeep, software licensing related to labs and fieldwork, etc. There are additional fees related to student travel to clinical sites, supplies, professional certifications, books, and exams as explained in the other expenses category.

Other Expenses:

Health Insurance: $944-2,496 (academic year 16-17)
Required for Clinical Experiences. This cost is depending on the plan and assuming health insurance is purchased through the university's student health insurance program, United Health Insurance. The yearly plan which extends from 8/16/16-8/15/17 costs $2,496. If students purchase just a fall semester plan that runs from 8/16/16-12/31/16 the cost is $944 If students purchase just a spring-summer semester plan that runs from 1/1/17-8/15/17 the cost is $1552. Alternatively, students can provide documentation of coverage through an external plan (e.g. thru their parents' insurance).

Physical Examination and Immunizations: Cost varies
Required for enrollment in the Athletic Training Program. Costs vary depending on your specific needs.

Background Check: $40-60
State and federal criminal history record checks are required for admission into the Athletic Training Program because they are required by clinical education experiences. Students must remit a check or money order for $40 addressed to the North Dakota Attorney General with the completed document to the Athletic Training Program Director which will be submitted to the North Dakota Attorney General. Two Completed finger print cards must accompany the Criminal History Record Check Request.  Students may, at no cost to the student, obtain fingerprinting at Minot State University Office of Safety and Security. Alternatively, a student may get fingerprinted at the Ward County Sheriff's Office or any other law enforcement center that offers fingerprinting. Payable by cash only (no checks or credit cards.) There is a $10.00 fee per card, must submit 2 cards ($20).

Toxicology Screen (Drug Test): $25-$200 May Be Required
Some clinical sites may require that students pass a toxicology screening prior to being placed in that experience.

Annual Influenza Vaccination: $25
Approximately $25 through MSU Student Health Center. Student who choose not to take influenza vaccination need to provide in writing that they have chosen to decline Influenza vaccination (by signing a declination statement). Influenza Immunization annually per CDC recommendations. Students will be compliant with the immunization policies of the agencies where attending clinical. Students should understand that by signing the declination form, if they are not able to attend clinical experiences due to the immunization policies of the agencies where they attend clinical hours they will fail to progress through the program. 

Annual TB Testing: $20 for One TB Test
Assuming students only need one for their clinical experience and through MSU Student Health Center.

Hepatitis B Vaccination Series: $65 each shot and a series of three is required.
Hepatitis B Vaccination Series is highly encouraged, however, at the current time students may complete a declination of Hepatitis Vaccination. If student has insurance other than the Student United Health Care insurance, the student would need to go through First District Health Unit the $65 each Approximately $25 through MSU Student Health Center. Students who choose not to take HBV immunizations need to provide in writing that they have chosen to decline HBV Immunization (by signing a declination statement). Students will be compliant with the immunization policies of the agencies where attending clinical. Students should understand that by signing the declination form, if they are not able to attend clinical experiences due to the immunization policies of the agencies where they attend clinical hours they will fail to progress through the program. 

Student Liability Insurance: FREE
Required. Provides liability coverage for all assigned clinical fieldwork.

Additional Clothing: Cost varies
Students are responsible for purchasing their own khaki shorts and pants of their own choosing. Students are issued one Athletic Training Program polo shirt and two t-shirts when they start their first clinical, Athletic Training Program or Minot State University logos are to be to be worn to all clinical experiences to identify the student as a student from Minot State University. If students wish to purchase more clothing with Athletic Training Program information printed on it the student will incur those costs which could range from $25-$400 depending on how much and what clothing the students want to purchase, this is not required however.

Transportation: Cost varies
Some required clinical rotations are not on campus, but all are within a 30-mile radius of Swain Hall. The Athletic Training Program does not arrange for student transportation to clinical sites. Students are responsible for arranging transportation to and from these clinical rotations and for all costs involved. This costs depends on gas prices, clinical site locations, and vehicle expenses ($200-?).

BOC Certification Examination: $300 - $375
The cost of the BOC Certification exam ranges from $300 for NATA members to $375 without NATA membership. This cost is will occur in the Spring or Summer of Senior Year, depending on which testing window the student applies to take the exam.
