Dr. Askvig has worked in the Department of Special Education at Minot State University for over 20 years. He has work experience as a special education teacher in the public schools, as an early interventionist in a rural infant toddler program, and a direct support staff member for adults with intellectual disabilities. His areas of specialization include severe/profound intellectual and developmental disabilities, preparation of personnel in special education, history of services for people with intellectual disabilities, and international aspects of human services for people with disabilities. Dr. Askvig’s current assignment is to direct the ND Center for Persons with Disabilities, a national center of excellence for services, research and training in developmental disabilities. He also teaches courses in medical and physical aspects of severe disabilities, and positive behavior supports for people with disabilities.
