Mission Statement
Research and Sponsored Programs serves the scholarship and creative activities of faculty, administrators, staff, and students by
- Facilitating the mission of MSU through the procurement of external support through grants, fellowships, contracts, royalties, licensing agreements, and technology assistance agreements.
- Supporting the expansion of research productivity of the university.
- Managing administrative process for seeking and securing external funding through state and federal agencies, as well as private foundations, on the MSU campus.
The Dean of Research and Sponsored Programs is responsible for a variety of activities including
- Assisting faculty in seeking and identifying external funding opportunities, reviewing RFP’s, contacting funding agencies, preparing grant proposals, submitting grant proposals, and post-grant relations.
- Acting as MSU's authorizing official for contract and grant proposal submissions.
- Maintaining records regarding MSU’s external funding assurances and compliances.
- Coordinating efforts with off-campus partners in externally funded projects.
- Coordinating the MSU Small Research Grants program.
- Coordinating the MSU Grant Writing Institute.
- Coordinating the Annual Faculty/Student Research Poster Session
- Documenting and publicizing external funding and faculty research accomplishments.
- Providing information to faculty, through informal training, newsletters, and website, regarding funding opportunities and accomplishments.
- Coordinating MSU’s annual federal appropriations requests.
