Nationwide Police Pursuit Training Study (NPPTS)
The purpose of this project is to conduct research and surveys that will evaluate the effectiveness of the pursuit training programs conducted nationwide. In addition, we will:
- identify issues such as management and supervisory concerns and beliefs regarding the development of police pursuit policy
- provide data regarding community opinions (collected from nationwide surveys) regarding police pursuits
- indicate the type of training law enforcement personnel across the United States would like to receive regarding this issue
This project will expand and evaluate the results of the current research on a national level focusing on police pursuit policy and issues. Surveys will be developed and reports provided with data collected from 10,000 community members with populations less than 50,000 and 38,329 law enforcement personnel with populations less than 50,000 (coming from 4,500 law enforcement agencies) nationwide to determine perceptions regarding police pursuits and police training needs.
