Criminal Justice

Confirming Career Choice in the Field

"Completing field experience through the Ward County Sheriff’s Department and Jail was a thoroughly enjoyable and remarkable opportunity. Everyone I worked with was exceptionally knowledgeable and skilled in the criminal justice field, including Jail Commander Penny Erikson, an MSU alumna (’84).

Melissa Spelchen, my criminal justice instructor at MSU, really believes in the importance of completing field experience and helps place students with local law enforcement and crime prevention agencies. Participating in field experience not only deepens your understanding of the criminal justice field, but it also helps verify that this is the type of work you want to do within the profession.

I’ve since been hired by the sheriff’s department and am truly grateful for the incredible opportunities and education MSU has provided me."
