Orientation

Summer Student

WELCOME TO MINOT STATE UNIVERSITY!

As a 2018 summer student, you have three options for orientation and class registration: Priority Orientation, Online Orientation, OR a one-day orientation.

By participating in New Student Orientation, you will:

  • Meet new and current students
  • Learn about available student support services, financial aid, housing, meal options, and academic requirements
  • Learn about campus policies and procedures
  • Complete placement tests for Math and English, if necessary
  • Meet with an academic advisor and ENROLL for classes
  • Have a better understanding of the Minot State University student experience

Online Student Orientation OSO
Online Student Orientation (OSO) provides an overview of Minot State and the available services to you. Students taking online courses to complete an online degree have the option to participate in online orientation. Students who choose to complete online orientation will first complete the online orientation modules, found on the Minot State University Blackboard system. After successfully completing the two orientation modules, students need to schedule a meeting with their advisor via phone, email, or skype. Once students have met with their advisor, they will be allowed to enroll in courses.  *May include students starting in summer 2018.

New Student Orientation (NSO)
New Student Orientation (NSO) is a one-day program offered over the summer. Although you are familiar with the college environment, you will find there are similarities and differences to navigating Minot State University compared to your previous institution. Each session is a one-day session where you can find out more about academic programs, student engagement opportunities, financing your undergraduate education, student success resources, understanding how to be a MSU Beaver, and register for fall courses.  We can’t wait to meet you, so make sure to register for your orientation session.

Priority Transfer Orientation (PTO)
Priority Transfer Orientation allows you to meet with an academic advisor, choose and enroll in your classes, and learn about campus life.  Priority Transfer Orientation is open to summer students planning to attend Minot State University during the summer semester.  Priority Transfer Orientation (PTO) allows new summer students to meet with an advisor and enroll in classes early. New summer students who participate and complete Priority Transfer Orientation do not need to attend a summer orientation. If new summer students are unable to sign up for Priority Transfer Orientation, students will need to participate in one of the New Student Orientation programs.

Please choose the most appropriate option when registering for your orientation event.

New Student Programming Fee:  Students will be charge the one-time New Student fee, which covers New Student Orientation (NSO) and Welcome Week(end) programming.  This cost includes meals, facility usage, materials, and staffing.
