
Out of State Students Interested in an MSU Online Degree Program
State and federal laws require colleges and universities to be authorized to offer online degree programs in states other than their own. Below is a list of states where Minot State University is authorized to offer online degree programs and the status of pending authorization requests. Please pay careful attention to the programs available in your state.

Minot State University has chosen not to seek authorization to offer field experience activities such as practicums, internships, or clinicals in the following states. The online programs that require field experience activities are: the Bachelor of Applied Science in Applied Management, Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses, and Associate of Science Degree in Human Services with a major in Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. If you choose the Certificate of Completion in Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities, you cannot take the practicum but must choose your coursework from the other options. Residents of these states should consult the program coordinator before applying to the program to see if alternative arrangements can be made. This decision does not affect citizens who are seeking enrollment in other degree/certificate programs or who may be taking an isolated course.

- Minot State University is currently licensed by the Board of Regents of the State of Louisiana. Licenses are renewed by the State Board of Regents every two years. Licensed institutions have met minimal operational standards set forth by the state, but licensure does not constitute accreditation, guarantee the transferability of credit, nor signify that programs are certifiable by any professional agency or organization.

The online programs that include field experience activities are: the Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses, and Associate of Science Degree in Human Services with a major in Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities. If you choose the Certificate of Completion in Developmental Disabilities, you cannot take the practicum but must choose your coursework from the other options. Residents of New York should consult the program coordinator before applying to the program to see if alternative arrangements can be made. This decision does not affect New York citizens who are seeking enrollment in other degree/certificate programs or who may be taking an isolated course.

Before a student can complete a field experience activity in Texas, Minot State University must apply for authorization for that specific field experience activity. - Minot State University is not regulated in Texas under Chapter 132 of the Texas Education Code.

- Washington
- Minot State University may legally offer all its online degree programs to Washington residents with the exception of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing for Registered Nurses.
- Minot State University is authorized by the Washington Student Achievement Council and meets the requirements and minimum educational standards established for degree-granting institutions under the Degree-Granting Institutions Act. This authorization is subject to periodic review and authorizes Minot State University to offer field placement components for specific degree programs. The Council may be contacted for a list of currently authorized programs. Authorization by the Council does not carry with it an endorsement by the Council of the institution or its programs.
