MSU Summer Theatre opens season 48 with 'Shrek the Musical'
MSU Summer Theatre season 48 opens with "Shrek the Musical" June 11-16. This hilarious new show, based on the Oscar-winning 2000 animated movie, musically retells the nontraditional fairytale of the reclusive ogre named Shrek, his babbling sidekick, Donkey, and the not-so-helpless princess Fiona as they seek their idyllic futures. Filled with clever, lovable characters, "Shrek the Musical" will be a family favorite this season. The performances begin in the Amphitheater at 8:30 p.m. Ticket office opens at 7:30.
"Anyone who liked the movie 'Shrek' should enjoy the 'Shrek the Musical.' It has fun music, recognizable characters, like the Gingerbread Man and Pinocchio, and a theme of celebrating individuality," said Chad Gifford, Summer Theatre assistant artistic director, who directs this production.
To commemorate the MSU Centennial Celebration, the One World Singers from Denver will perform before the show June 13 at 8 p.m. and again during intermission. This talented group presents music for many genres and cultures.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and children over 12, $5 for children 12 and under and $3 for MSU personnel and summer students with current MSU ID. Reservations may be made by calling the Summer Theatre box office at 858-3228.
