MSU percussion concert
Minot State University percussionists will feature the rhythms of salsa and jazz on their Mid-Winter Concert, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall. The Percussion Ensemble and Marimba Ensemble will perform.
"This semester we have been learning about Latin rhythms like the clave, the cascara and the tumbao. These patterns are what make salsa music dance," said MSU Percussion Instructor Avis Veikley. "We will be playing some salsa, some jazz-and a bit of Schubert just for balance."
In addition to Franz Schubert, composers represented on the program are Camille Saint-Saëns, Josh Gottry, Chick Corea, Dave Grusin, Julie Davila and Stephen Primatic.
The concert is free and open to the public. Parking on the MSU campus is unrestricted after 5 p.m.
