MSO High School Soloist Competition winner selected Dec. 14
The Minot State University Division of Music is sponsoring the upcoming Minot Symphony Orchestra High School Soloist Competition Dec. 14 in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall at 7 p.m. The public is welcome to view the auditions.
"We have had stunning performances by some very talented young individuals in the past," said Jon Rumney, professor of music. "In most cases, this is their first experience performing as soloist with an orchestra, and it can be a stepping stone to a performing career."
Rumney has coordinated the competition for 18 years. He distributes applications and guidelines to music teachers in north central and northwest North Dakota schools. Students perform repertoire from the concerto literature or of the equivalent difficulty and substance suitable for a symphonic program.
The winner will perform with the Minot Symphony Orchestra as the featured soloist at its Children's Concerts Jan. 25 and its Family Concert on Jan. 26.
For questions, contact Rumney at 858-3304 or jon.rumney@minotstateu.edu.
