Freezin' for a Reason brings awareness of homelessness and hunger

The Minot State University Student Social Work Organization and Minot Area Homeless Coalition are sponsoring "Freezin' for a Reason" at Minot's Town & Country Center parking lot Saturday (Nov. 17) from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

"We (SSWO members) are standing out in the freezing cold on Saturday to help promote awareness and raise money for the homeless," said Ashley Barczewski, event co-organizer. "We are collecting money, canned goods, dried foods and anything that can help the Homeless Coalition."

The participants stand in the cold and "freeze" to experience homelessness firsthand. Individuals can participate by dropping off food or monetary contributions at the parking lot or by "freezing" with the MSU SSWO members. The Minot Homeless Coalition and MSU SSWO are holding the event as part of the National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week, Nov. 10-18.

For questions about the Minot event, contact Dionne Spooner, SSWO faculty advisor, at 858-3142 or dionne.l.spooner@minotstateu.edu or SSWO members at sswo@minotstateu.edu.
