MSU alumnus grew with North Dakota oil industry
Nathan Conway, alumnus, will return to Minot State University Monday (Nov. 5) as part of the Distinguished Alumni Series. Conway’s involvement in the North Dakota oil industry includes service as the chief operating officer of Ward Williston Oil Company, a North Dakota-based oil and gas exploration and production company.
Conway feels the American oil and gas industry must cut its dependence on foreign oil
"We need to produce as much oil from the United States as possible rather than import oil from the Middle East," Conway said in an article from the fall 2011 Connections magazine. "By producing oil in the United States, no one will have fought over it, no one will have died over it, and we will no longer be supporting countries that do not like us."
Conway will meet with College of Business faculty, lecture to students in energy and finance and business classes, present to Rotary, a service club, and interact with faculty and staff and community members. Community members are invited to a free reception, where Conway will discuss his career, in the Slaaten Business C enter, third floor Old Main, at 4:30 p.m.
The Westhope native grew up in the oil business in North Dakota. As a high school and university student, he worked by checking oil wells on weekends and over summers. During the school year, Conway studied accounting at MSU, completing his bachelor’s degree in 2001.
After graduation, Conway joined Ward Williston and quickly advanced through the company’s ranks. He also completed an MBA from the University of Michigan.
Conway is active in his professional and local community serving as a member of the Independent Petroleum Association of America and the North Dakota Petroleum Council board of directors. He provides monetary support and offers his business acumen to help feed and educate Africa children, through Joint Aid Management, an African Relief Organization; he is a member of JAM’s board of directors.
Both Business Watch Magazine and Prairie Business recognized Conway with their "40 under 40" business awards. He was recently honored by Platts Global Energy Awards as a finalist for its Rising Star Award.
