MSU hires McCall as director of residence life
Devin McCall is the new director of residence life at Minot State University, according to Dick Jenkins, vice president for student affairs. He started his new duties Oct. 15.
McCall will be responsible for the overall leadership, supervision, development and administration of Minot State's campus housing program. These responsibilities include formulating policies and procedures; maximizing housing occupancy goals; hiring, training, supervising and evaluating housing staff and responding to critical incidents and upholding safety protocols. The residence life director will also collaborate with other university departments to improve academic success, retention and graduation rates and facilitate housing opportunities for MSU students living off-campus.
The director of residence life position is new and is the result of reorganization within Student Affairs.
"We are delighted to have a person of Devin's caliber be our first full-time residence life director," Jenkins said. "His hiring will allow us to expand services in this critical area and will free up some of Lisa Eriksmoen's time to provide additional counseling services to our students."
Eriksmoen, former student life director, now holds the title of director of student wellness and development and will oversee the major areas of counseling, disability services, testing, student health, the Student Wellness Center and the POWER Center, a TRiO Student Support Services program.
Other positions McCall has held include area coordinator in Student Affairs' housing program at Pittsburg State University, Kan. The Denver native is no stranger to North Dakota, as he was a residence hall director while studying at the University of North Dakota.
McCall said he's looking forward to his new role "with great enthusiasm." He wants to open positive communication between residence life and other campus offices to better serve on-campus students and promote an exciting and healthy living and learning environment at Minot State. He also wants to empower students to be advocates for policy development and change within the residence halls.
"I am excited to be at Minot State and have the opportunity to work with students, faculty and staff to develop a strong foundation for residence life at Minot State University," McCall said. "There are a lot of great things happening right now at MSU, and I am grateful to be a part of this."
McCall holds a bachelor's degree in airport management and a master's degree in business administration from the UND.
