Beaver Brew Café to hold grand opening Sept. 3
Beaver Brew Café, Minot’s newest coffee shop, will host a grand opening Sept. 3 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Clint Severson and Conni Ahart will be special guests. The coffee shop is located on the lower level of the Beaver Ridge Plaza (1100 North Broadway).
Beaver Brew Café is a unique coffee shop concept made possible through a landmark donation by Severson and Ahart. On Feb. 9, 2010, they donated $1 million to establish the MSU College of Business’ Severson Entrepreneurship Academy. Severson, a 1973 alumnus, is chairman of the board, chief executive officer and president of Abaxis, a medical devices company based in northern California. He is also the 2007 Forbes Entrepreneur of the Year.
Through SEA and the Entrepreneurship Club, the coffee shop concept was created for students to learn all the different parts of planning, opening and operating a business. The Entrepreneurship Club, which is open to all majors, began planning during fall semester 2011, with selecting what types of products would be offered to designing the initial floor plan.
"This has truly been a 'learning lab' for students to gain first-hand experience starting a business. Through the SEA’s Entrepreneurship Club, and under Chuck Barney’s direction, they have planned and implemented everything it takes to make Beaver Brew Café a reality - from market research, to floor plan, to finance issues, to HR, to sourcing, to customer service, and more," said JoAnn Linrud, College of Business dean. "The students have been avidly involved in every step; this project has become exactly what we hoped, students applying their academics to a practical situation."
"It's exciting to see all of the students’ hard work come to fruition with the opening of the Beaver Brew Café," said Chuck Barney, SEA director.
