
Community grief counseling seminars Oct. 28-29 on MSU campus
Minot State University welcomes world renowned speaker and grief counselor, Darcie D. Sims, to Ann Nicole Nelson Hall on Oct. 28-29. Editor for Grief Digest, Sims will offer a grief counseling workshop and seminar to help flood victims emotionally heal and provide them with hope and encouragement in rebuilding their lives.
"How to help in the Midst of despair: Coping with Grief and Accumulated loss," is Sims' first seminar on Oct. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The program objectives include identifying and dealing with grief, and is a workshop tailored to professional caregivers, public service groups and is also open to the general public. Sims will discuss coping mechanisms, strategies for caring overload and dealing with accumulation of loss. This program is free, with lunch provided at noon. The Oct. 29 seminar is "Rebuilding our Lives: An Evening of Finding Hope," from 7-9 p.m. in Ann Nicole Nelson Hall at MSU. The event will focus on the events of the flood and how to move forward. Immediately following Sims' presentation, there will be a social in the Nelson lobby. This event is a free community event, but it is advised that children under the age of 10 do not attend.
Dr. Sims is the Director of the American Grief Academy and has served as the coping editor for Bereavement magazine for 15 years. She is the co-founder and president of Grief, Inc. She is a grief management specialist, a nationally certified thanatologist, a certified pastoral bereavement specialist and licensed psychotherapist and hypnotherapist. She is the author or co-author of nine books and she has written and produced or been featured in several videos that focus on grieving.
