Fuller joins new 'Presidents' Trust' to advance liberal education as source of vitality and economic growth
WASHINGTON, D.C.--David Fuller, president of Minot State University, announced today that he has joined a new Presidentsí Trust formed by the Association of American Colleges and Universities. President Fuller and an esteemed national group of 81 other college and university leaders from around the country are forming this Trust to strongly and collectively make the case for liberal education and its value in todayís world. The Presidentsí Trust is a leadership group within AAC&Uís national initiative, Liberal Education and Americaís Promise : Excellence for Everyone as a Nation Goes To College.
"I am honored and pleased to be asked to serve as a Presidentís Trust member. The leadership of AAC&U through its LEAP initiative and its ongoing support for the critical role of liberal arts and civic engagement is essential for higher education in the 21st century," Fuller said. "This vision matches to the tee Minot State Universityís mission and vision. I look forward to participating with other members of the Trust to advance the cause of liberal education and economic and civic vitality."
Members of the LEAP Presidentsí Trust are leaders from all sectors of higher education and are committed to advocating for the vision, values and practices that connect liberal education with the individual and societal needs of the 21st century. Through regional and national meetings and their own advocacy efforts, Trust members will engage with campus members and those outside of higher education about the core purposes and practices of liberal education. They are all also providing leadership for advancing reforms in the practice of liberal education both on campus and with other groups and organizations with which they are affiliated.
"President Fuller is already providing valuable leadership, speaking out and ensuring that Minot State University students are receiving the kind of college education that will best prepare them for success in todayís competitive global economy -- an engaged and practical liberal education," AAC&U President Carol Geary Schneider said.
