MSU alumnus receives prestigious award from NASC Les Anderson, an Minot State University alumnus and principal at Jim Hill Middle School, was awarded the National Association of Student Councils’ Distinguished Service Award at its convention Dec. 9. This is only the third time in the association’s seventy-six years that the award has been given. Anderson has received a number of awards during his career, but this one was one of the most significant, he said. Anderson began volunteering with the organization more than 30 years ago and has served at both its state and the national level. He has witnessed its growth from a small state conference to one with more than 1,200 participants. Presently North Dakota’s student association convention is one of the largest in the United States. Anderson said he has always believed in the importance of the organization. "If you’re going to be successful, you need to be involved in some sort of community service," said Anderson, who encourages students from Jim Hill to get involved too. Anderson said the two previous recipients of the award had both been special mentors for him, so he was especially honored to receive the award. Anderson plans to display his plaque in his office along with a book showing the pictures of students who have participated in the organization over the years. | |||||||||||||
