25th Annual MSU Alumni Association GALA Dinner and Auction This silver anniversary celebration will be held at the Minot State University Dome on Friday, Oct. 5, 2007. Social hour and silent auction will begin at 5:30 p.m., dinner will be served at 6:45 p.m., followed by the live auction. This festive and elegant event promises to be a fun-filled evening of music, fine dining, and an opportunity to support Minot State University. Each year, proceeds from the GALA allow the MSU Alumni Association to contribute to a variety of projects on and off campus, many of which are open to community participation. Some of the most recent campus projects include funding for campus speakers, Multicultural Club Honors Dance, MSU Etiquette Dinner, Student Orientation, Homecoming, Commencement activities, and alumni magazine, Connections. Other projects include opportunities to network with MSU alumni and friends on campus, throughout the state, and around the world. A major portion of the GALA profits are placed into the Alumni Endowment Fund for the purpose of awarding scholarships. As this fund continues to grow, an increasing number of scholarships are being provided every year. For the 2007-2008 school year, we have awarded over $21,000 in scholarships to 33 MSU students. The first dinner and fund-raising auction for the MSU Alumni Association was held 25 years ago when Minot State University celebrated its 70th anniversary. Thanks to the leadership and forward thinking of such people as Rich Saunders, Milt Rolle, Hardy Lieberg, and the 1983 alumni board, the annual dinner and auction has become the major fund-raiser for the Alumni Association. Milt Rolle stated, "In 1983, the board members wanted this new MSU auction to be a formal, fun affair and then Hardy Lieberg came up with the idea of calling the evening a GALA. The board members were asked to dress formally, tuxedos and all. The evening was a working affair for all the board members. They were busy seating guests, selling raffle tickets, and assisting with a live auction." Today, the GALA continues to be a success, due to the hard work of the MSU Alumni Association, Alumni Office, GALA Committee, and the nearly 300 contributors who provide sponsorships, merchandise, gift certificates, and cash for the event. Last but not least, the most integral part of making the GALA a success is you the bidder!
