Summer Theatre: Into the Woods
July 21, 22, & 24-28
By Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine
Directed by Kevin R. Neuharth
An ambivalent Cinderella? A blood-thirsty Little Red Ridinghood? A Prince Charming with a roving eye? A Witch...who raps? They're all among the cockeyed characters in this fractured fairy tale, a favorite Broadway musical. When a Baker and his Wife learn they've been cursed with childlessness by the Witch next door, they embark on a fantastical quest. What begins as a lively, irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children. This is not the first time you have seen "Into the Woods" in Minot and we are excited to bring it back to you after a 15-year absence. Eric Furusetth narrates this wacky story of fairy tale characters, with Missy Ali as Little Red, Matt Murphy as Jack of Beanstalk fame, Jennifer Bloomberg as his mother, with Noah Files as the Baker and Betty Cummings as his wife, all battling through the woods towards survival. Lesley Rice will be portraying the Witch, the one who sets it all in motion and wonders if "Children will listen." This is one you won't want to miss.
All shows are in the MSU Amphitheater at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults, $7 for senior citizens and children over 12, $5 for children 12 and under, and $2 for MSU personnel and summer students with current MSU ID. Reservations may be made by calling the Summer Theatre box office at 858-3228.
