2006-2007 Season Review
The MSU men's basketball team finished
the season 7-7 in Dakota Athletic Conference (DAC) play maintaining
a run of six years without a losing record in conference play.
The Beavers finished 14-15 overall snapping a streak of four consecutive
winning seasons.
Minot State's balanced won/loss record
tells the story of the season as the Beavers enjoyed only one weekend
sweep the entire season and their longest win streak was three games.
On the other side of things MSU was swept only once during conference
action. However, that sweep came during a pivotal four game
losing streak. Early in the second half of the DAC schedule
the Beavers faced the toughest stretch of their conference schedule
with three straight road games against three of the top four teams
in the league. Minot State quite possibly played its best
basketball of the season but came away empty handed with a three
point loss and two overtime losses. The streak sealed the
Beavers' fate in the middle of the DAC standings.
For the season, Joe Gathings led MSU in
scoring at 12.2 points per game despite playing only in MSU's final
17 games. Gathings was followed in scoring by Jordan Cooper
(Westhope) at 11.9 point per game. MSU was led in rebounding
by Cleodis Hilliard at 5.1 per game. Post season honors went
to a couple seniors. Cooper was named Second-Team All-Conference
and Drew Hysjulien (Grand Forks) was named a NAIA Scholar-Athlete
