Research in Analysis of MLL Translocation and Fusion Genes.
Primary Investigator: Dr. Heidi Super
Dr. Heidi Super , Associate Professor of Biology, is conducting research focusing on the identification of molecular interactions of DNA and cellular proteins in chromosome rearrangements that could lead to development of or changes in treatment of certain human cancers. Dr. Super studies a specific gene in human leukemia cells, the MLL gene, which undergoes frequent rearrangement with various other chromosomal regions. Experiments focus on how proteins such as topoisomerase II, facilitate breakage and recombination between non homologous genomic regions and how related fusion genes/proteins are involved in leukemogenesis.
