Nagel, Borner added to great recruiting class

MINOT, N.D. – Minot State University women’s golf added depth and top notch talent as the Beavers inked prep No. 1s Mackenzie Nagel and Hanna Borner to Dakota Athletic Conference letters of intent to continue their playing careers this fall.

Nagel, Minot High School’s No. 1, completed a stellar prep career for the Majettes this past spring as she finished high school with 13 varsity letters. She lettered in golf six times, five in fast pitch softball and twice in girls basketball. She was named All-State in softball three times and golf twice. Nagel also was named all conference in golf three times.

“Mackenzie is one of the top golfers in the state and will make an immediate impact on our program,” said MSU head golf coach Chipper Farrell. “We have been watching her career closely for some time now and are extremely excited to have her sign with us.”

Nagel has a tournament low score of 73. She helped the Majettes to back-to-back state titles in 2008 and 2009. In her junior campaign, Nagel finished eighth overall in the individual state Class A tournament and was third this past season. Along with her athletic achievements, Nagel was a member of the Honor Society for all four years of high school.

“Mackenzie is a model student-athlete,” Farrell said. “Plus, she has had success on the team level in high school and that should help her as she transitions to college. We are coming off a historic season in women’s golf at MSU and we hope to have another banner season.”

The Beavers earned their first trip to the NAIA National Women’s Golf Championships last season and won the DAC title for the first time in school history.

Borner was Washburn High School’s No. 1 golfer for the past three seasons, earning a trip to the North Dakota Class B state tournament four times. She was Washburn’s team captain for three seasons, earning team Most Valuable Player four times. Her tournament best is an 83.

“Hanna will have to improve her distance off the tee, but she hits the ball straight and putts very well,” said Farrell. “She is a hard worker on the course and off it. One of the things we have worked on with the women’s team is finding depth. Hanna will certainly help our team’s depth.”
