2005 Hall of fame includes three football Inductees
This years class of Hall of Fame
Inductees includes Bert Leidholt, a former football coach, Robert D'Andrea
a former football player, and Maynard Sandberg (MSU Special Achievement).
The remaining class includes Jerry Girard (Track & Field), John Schaffer
(Basketball).
Bert Leidholt was both a football
and track & field coach at MSU from 1969 - 1998. Bert was the head
football coach from 1975-1982 and assistant football coach from 1969-1974
& 1983-1992. During his first six years as a football coach, Leidholt
was also the assistant track & field coach. Bert was a highly respected
offensive line and special teams coach as he coached the offensive line all
23 years of coaching the game. He left Minot State with many years of
accomplishments in football and coached the Beavers to ten conference championships,
those years being 1971, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1983, 1985, 1991, 1992 (Final 4),
1993, & 1994 (Elite 8). Bert also taught physical education courses
at Minot State and retired from teaching in 1998. Bert currently resides
in Minot, ND with his wife Virginia. He and his wife have four children:
David, Dan, Kay Marie, and Michelle, along with eight grandchildren.
Robert D'Andrea was a standout football
player in 1990-1993. He was a four year letter winner and played the
position of linebacker. Robert was a three-time All Conference performer,
being named All Conference in 1991, 1992 & 1993. He was a two-time
All-District performer in 1992 & 1993. He was also named to the
NAIA All American first team in 1993. He also helped to lead the Beavers
to three Conference Championships in 1991, 1992, 1993. Robert was a
team captain in 1992 & 1993 and helped the Beavers to become the NAIA's
Leading Rushing Defense team in 1992 & 1993. Rob currently resides
in Regina and has been with the Regina Police Force for the past seven years.
Maynard Sandberg is being honored
with the MSU Special Achievement Award. Maynard was an outstanding football
player for the Beavers and attended Minot State University from 1949-1955.
He helped the Beaver Football team win two Conference Championships in 1952
and 1954. Maynard was an MSU Alumni Association Golden Award Recipient
in 1989. He has been a member of the MSU Board of Regents since 1979.
He has been a member of the MSU Development Foundation Board of Directors
since 2002. Maynard was also very instrumental in organizing the MSU Pep Band,
"The Beaver Brass." Maynard currently resides in Minot, ND
working for Great West Life Insurance Company. His wife Jeanne passed
sway June 12, 1998.
