Great Plains Scholar Awards for First-Year Students
As a new freshman student, you're invited to apply for Minot State University's new
scholarship to be awarded for the fi rst time in fall 2008. The new Great Plains Scholar
Awards are designed to reward outstanding fi rst-year students in the academic and community
leadership areas.
To ensure eligibility for an award, you are asked to complete and return the Minot State
University application package and Great Plains Award materials by February 15,
2008. As you take the ACT or SAT test(s), be sure to have the results sent to
Minot State University. Carefully review the following awards for additional
required information. Incomplete or late application packages may not be
reviewed.
Great Plains Exceptional Scholar Award and Criteria
Priority Date: February 15, 2008 (postmark date)
$14,000 Award
$3,500 per year for four consecutive undergraduate years (fall and spring
semesters only beginning fall semester 2008), payable in equal amounts each semester if
all renewal criteria are met.
Eligibility Requirements
- 3.65 or above GPA and 30-36 composite ACT score or 1340-1600 combined SAT score
- SAT score based out of 1600. If your SAT is based out of 2400 please contact Admissions for conversion.
- One-page, single-spaced essay demonstrating your civic engagement or contribution to a
sense of place
- Completed housing application* and Honors Program application. (The award renewal
is contingent upon you living on campus and enrolled in the Honors Program through
spring semester 2012.)
- Maintain enrollment in 12 or more credit hours (campus courses only) per semester and
a minimum GPA of 3.3 per semester
- Residency in one of the Great Plains states defi ned as North Dakota, Minnesota,
Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas,
and Wyoming, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan
* Married, single parents, disabled, or military students may apply for an exemption to
on-campus living requirement.
Honors Program
The Honors Program can offer you small class sizes and lively discussions. The program
also offers a series of courses that can earn you a "concentration" at Minot State, as well as
an Honors Program distinction on your transcript and diploma. Many of honors courses
overlap with general education or even your major requirements. You’ll fi nd unexpected
rewards along the way, like valuable one-on-one time with nationally-recognized professors
and lasting friendships with people outside your major.

Great Plains Engaged Scholar Award and Criteria
Priority Date: February 15, 2008 (postmark date)
$1500 Award
One-time, non-renewable
Eligibility Requirements
- 3.50 or above GPA and 26-36 composite ACT score or 1180-1600 combined
SAT score
- SAT score based out of 1600. If your SAT is based out of 2400 please contact Admissions for conversion.
- Single paragraph (maximum of 100 words) describing how you will contribute
to the campus life and vitality of Minot State University
- Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credit hours (campus courses only)
- Residency in one of the Great Plains states defi ned as North Dakota, Minnesota,
Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota,
Texas, and Wyoming, and the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and
Saskatchewan
$1,000 Award
One-time, non-renewable
Eligibility Requirements
- 3.00 or above GPA and 23-36 composite ACT score or 1070-1600 combined SAT score
- SAT score based out of 1600. If your SAT is based out of 2400 please contact Admissions for conversion.
- Single paragraph (maximum of 100 words) describing how you will contribute to
the campus life and vitality of Minot State University
- Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credit hours (campus courses only)

Dakota, Minnesota, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New
Mexico, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming, and the
Canadian provinces of Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan.
