2010-11 Great Plains Scholar Awards for First-Year Students
As a new freshman student, you're invited to apply for Minot State University’s premiere scholarship. The Great Plains Scholar Awards are designed to reward outstanding first year students in the academic and community leadership areas.

To ensure eligibility for an award, you are asked to complete and return the Minot State University application package and Great Plains Award materials by February 15, 2010. As you take the ACT or SAT test(s), be sure to have the results sent to Minot State University. Carefully review the following awards for additional required information. Incomplete or late application packages may not be reviewed.

Great Plains Exceptional Scholar Award
Priority Date: February 15, 2010 (postmark date)

100% Tuition Award [ Show/Hide Details ]
Full tuition* for four consecutive undergraduate years (fall and spring semesters only beginning fall semester 2010), payable in equal amounts each semester if all renewal criteria are met. *Does not include fees.

Requirements

  • 3.65 or above GPA and 30-36 composite ACT score or 1340-1600 combined SAT score
  • One-page, single-spaced essay demonstrating your civic engagement or contribution to a sense of place
  • Completed housing application* and Honors Program application. (The award is contingent upon you living on campus your freshman year and enrolled in the Honors Program through spring semester 2014.)
  • Maintain enrollment in 15 or more credit hours (campus courses only) per semester and a minimum GPA of 3.3 per semester
  • Residency in either the United States or Canada
  • Active membership in an MSU student organization or co-curricular program (The award renewal is contingent upon your active membership in an MSU student organization through spring semester 2014)

* Married, single parents, disabled, or military students may apply for an exemption to on-campus living requirement.

Honors Program
The Honors Program can offer you small class sizes and lively discussions. The program also offers a series of courses that can earn you a "concentration" at Minot State, as well as an Honors Program distinction on your transcript and diploma. Many of honors courses overlap with general education or even your major requirements. You'll find unexpected rewards along the way, like valuable one-on-one time with nationally-recognized professors and lasting friendships with people outside your major.

Great Plains Engaged Scholar Award

One-time, non-renewable

Requirements

  • 3.50 or above GPA and 26-36 composite ACT score or 1180-1600 combined SAT score
  • Single paragraph (maximum of 100 words) describing how you will contribute to the campus life and vitality of Minot State University
  • Enrollment in a minimum of 15 credit hours (campus courses only)
  • Residency in either the United States or Canada

One-time, non-renewable

Requirements

  • 3.00 or above GPA and 23-36 composite ACT score or 1070-1600 combined SAT score
  • Single paragraph (maximum of 100 words) describing how you will contribute to the campus life and vitality of Minot State University
  • Enrollment in a minimum of 15 credit hours (campus courses only)
  • Residency in either the United States or Canada

2010-11 Great Plains Awards for Transfer Students
As a transfer student, you're invited to apply for a Minot State University Great Plains Award. To ensure eligibility for an award, you are asked to complete and return the Minot State University application package and Great Plains Award materials by February 15, 2010. Please review the following awards for additional required information. Incomplete or late application packages may not be reviewed.

Great Plains Transfer Scholar Awards
Priority Date: February 15, 2010 (postmark date)

Requirements

  • 3.50 or above GPA (GPA calculations will be based on transferable semester hours only)
  • Completion of a minimum of 24 and no more than 70 transferable semester hours of earned credit
  • Enrollment in a minimum of 15 credit hours (campus courses only)
  • Single paragraph (maximum of 100 words) describing how you will contribute to the campus life and vitality of Minot State University
  • Residency in either the United States or Canada.

The MSU Foundation Distinctive & Engaged Scholars Program
Eligible to First-Year Students

In a quest to support the vision of Minot State University achieving national distinction as one of the premiere public, regional universities in the "great" Great Plains, Minot State University is continuing a bold and encompassing scholarship campaign to attract proven students who are engaged leaders of their school communities.

The Foundation’s Distinctive & Engaged Scholars program was introduced to recognize exemplary student performance in the classroom and in the community. The successful recipient will be a student who lives the core values of excellence, integrity and community engagement as set forth by Vision 2013: A Vision for the Future of Minot State University.

  • A written recommendation from the school’s administrator demonstrating exemplary commitment to serving others in the school community and civic community
  • 3.0 GPA for students residing in the United States/75% for students residing in Canada
  • Enrollment in a minimum of 12 credit hours (campus courses only)

Service for the Common Good Awards/3.0 GPA or 75% or higher
