Howard Theige graduated from Minot State University in 1959. He received his MSEd from Moorhead State University in 1966. He began his teaching career in Anamoose (ND) in 1959. Since that time he has taught in the public school system at Carrington (ND), Devils Lake (ND), and in the Minot Public Schools. He has taught Continuing Education classes for Minot State University since 1985.
Mr. Theige has taught driver education since 1969. He was the Department Chairman for the Minot Public Schools from 1975-1998. The Minot Public Schools offer a 90 hour four-phase (Classroom, Simulation, Multiple-Vehicle Driving Range, and On-Street) program in driver education for high school sophomores. This program trains about 600 students each year.
The Minot Public Schools have also offered Multiple-Vehicle Driving Range instruction to area high schools. Mr. Theige originated this program in 1975 and has trained over 10,000 area students during that time.
Mr. Theige is a former President of the North Dakota Driver and Traffic Safety Education Association (1991-93) and was named Teacher-of-the-Year in 1985 and 1993 by that group.
