Nomination Form - Peer Mentor of the Year Award

Completed nomination letters must be submitted by 4:30pm on Monday, April 24, 2017. No late nominations will be accepted.

The purpose of the Peer Mentor of the Year award is to recognize and encourage outstanding achievement by peer mentors working with FYE learning community students. This award provides an opportunity for faculty, staff, and students to express appreciation for mentors who set positive examples for students and support the mission and vision of Minot State University.

Mentors who are nominated should have demonstrated excellence in one or more of the following areas. Some examples have been provided for each area.

  • Programming: hosts or coordinates exceptional activities and programs for mentees
  • Team Building: performs team building exercises with mentees; encourages interaction between the students, etc.
  • Interpersonal Interaction: spends quality time with mentees face-to-face inside and outside of the classroom, etc.
  • Leadership: able to lead, guide and direct the group; refers mentees to campus/community resources when needed, etc.
  • Inclusiveness: makes an effort to involve all mentees in activities; ensures everyone’s opinions are heard in class discussions, etc.
  • Academic Assistance: provides guidance or assistance with academic-related issues; identifies tutoring services; encourages involvement in academic programs or workshops, etc.
  • Role Modeling: engages in campus activities; models appropriate behavior; demonstrates a commitment to their academics, etc.
  • Classroom Presentations/Facilitations: provides thoughtful and engaging presentations to the class; facilitates meaningful discussions/activities related to course material, etc.
  • Other

The Nomination Process An FYE learning community instructor and/or a learning community student must submit letters of nomination explaining how a peer mentor has demonstrated excellence in one or more of the above areas. Completed nomination letters must be submitted by 4:30pm on Monday, April 24, 2017. No late nominations will be accepted.
