Addendum 001
Honors Program Coursework - Changed for Fall 2009, prior to Fall 2009 it's listing was:

The Honors Program earns a "concentration," and students take a minimum of 31 semester hours within the program. Much of that coursework substitutes for regular general education offerings (23 cr), and the rest is upper division honors coursework (8 cr). The course requirements for most majors permit enough "open" electives to accommodate the addition of honors coursework.

The Honors Program earns a concentration, and students take a minimum of 36 semester hours within the program. Much of that coursework substitutes for regular General Education offerings, and the rest is required honors coursework. Course requirements for most majors permit enough "open" electives to accommodate the addition of honors coursework. Students in the Honors Program participate in lively seminar discussions, conduct independent study and research, produce and present an advanced-level writing project, participate in community service projects, and earn public recognition for their achievements.

The Honors Program curriculum consists of a minimum of 36 semester hours, structured as follows:

Honors General Education Coursework (17 cr)
(as partial fulfillment of overall General Education requirements)

Honors Required Coursework (9 cr)

Honors Elective Coursework (10 cr)
Arts, History, or Humanities

Science (4-5)

Social Science or Professional Studies

Items to Note:

* Students with existing credits in English composition may petition the Honors Director for possible substitutions. Students who are permitted to substitute ENGL 120 for ENGL 121H will be expected to take an additional Honors elective.

Courses marked with a "GE" can be used as partial fulfillment of the MSU General Education Requirements.

COMM 110 is waived for Honors Program students who seek a bachelor’s degree. Due to state teacher education requirements, all BSE degree candidates must however complete this course.

Some academic majors may require completion of certain specific General Education courses and may not accept Honors Program substitutions.

An upper-division foreign language course can be used in the Arts, History, and Humanities category if the grade = A (200, 300 or 400 level course).

Up to six Honors Independent Study or Study Abroad credits may be applied in the three elective categories (with permission from the Honors Director).

To graduate with Associate Honors designation, the student must complete: one year of a foreign language and one honors General Education elective and must complete the Honors Required Coursework as described above.
