Jun 18: Friend-raising Golf Tour

4:30pm: Off-campus MSU Event
It's time for the annual MSU Summer Golf Tour! The dates for this year's tour are June 4 in Velva, June 13 in Rugby, June 18 in Stanley, July 2 in Bottineau, July 16 in Garrison and August 1 in Kenmare.

This tour is a great way to get Minot State University out in the surrounding communities and support them at the same time!

Registration will begin at 4:30 p.m. with a shotgun start at 5 p.m. A social will immediately follow completion of golf, estimated at about 7 p.m. Non-golfers are welcome to attend.

Golfers are responsible for their own green fees and cart rentals. Meals and refreshments will be provided by the course and purchase is optional.

Transportation from Minot State University to each course will be available at no charge. Reservations for transportation and meals are required one week before the date of each outing. It is recommended that golfers interested in carts make reservations as soon as possible because the number of carts available is limited.

Prizes will be awarded at each event, and everyone golfing gets a T-shirt. This "Friend-raising Golf Tour" is sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association, Advancement Office, Athletic Department and the Marketing Office. For questions, contact Janna McKechnie. Meet new students, learn about MSU support services, visit with an academic advisor and register for classes. All new students to MSU are required to attend a CONNECT event. Students must be accepted to MSU and will be invited to complete the online form to reserve a spot at a CONNECT session. Check-in is from 8:15 to 9 a.m. in the Student Center Atrium and the program concludes around 4 p.m. Students must attend the entire day's activities.

Jun 19: College for Kids - Creating with Clay

Ages 9-12.
Instructor: Linda Olson.
Clay is a wonderful, tactile medium. Its three-dimensional nature invites children to interact with shape and form, thinking about their ideas and adapting to change as they work. In this introductory class to creating with clay, the student will hand build projects using coil, slab, and pinch techniques. Different kinds of clay will be introduced.

Have you ever wanted to create the smartest, strongest and most advanced LEGO� robot ever? If your answer is yes, then attend the Exploring Robotics Camp. Using a Robotics Invention Kit and a computer, you will design and program real robots that move and act the way you want. By programming your 32-bit microprocessor, 3 Interactive Servo motors, sound sensor, ultrasonic visual sensor, touch sensor, and light sensor, your robot will be able to move around obstacles, duck into dark corners, and do whatever creative movements you program. The possibilities are endless!!

Salamanders and frogs are important, fun, and beautiful part of our world. But most people never see them in their own world. In this class, you will take part in ongoing projects that are designed to help us understand how salamanders and frogs live their lives, from where they live, how they walk and swim, where they breed, and what they like to eat. You will get to catch salamanders and frogs and see how we learn about them in the field and in the laboratory. Kids could get muddy and soaking wet; this includes shoes (high topped shoes are best).

Jun 19: College for Kids - Scrappin' 101 #1

Ages 9-12.
Instructor: Jolene Haffner.
Students will come to class with 12-24 photos and leave with a scrapbook completed with stickers, decorative paper and journaling. They will learn the skills of how to take better photos, how to crop photos, and how to plan their album. Most importantly they will learn how to journal their memories. Camp fee includes Creative Memories scrapbook kit.

Come join us in Minecraft! Minecraft is a 3D world adventure/building game that you can play by yourself or in multiplayer mode. Players gather resources to survive the monsters that come out at night, and to build homes and creations. Come learn how to design whatever your imagine in a game by adding or removing blocks, forming really cool structures, and then play it by navigating your character through the randomly-generated 3D world. No experience is necessary to learn to play this very popular game. Students will need to purchase a Minecraft license, if they don't already have one.

Yoga for kids is a class that creates a context for each child to thrive and emerge in their brightest light. All children deserve to feel "bright, light, and radiant" and to see those things within themselves. Some of the many benefits of yoga for kids are: strength, flexibility and balance; concentration, focus and attention; confidence and self-esteem; inner strength and body awareness; creativity and imagination; awareness of breath; relaxation and self-control; feeling of well-being and respect for others. The goal of this Yoga for Kids class is to recognize and heal emotional and physical stressors of life. The main ideas of the class are to practice breathing, strength, flexibility, and authenticity.

A Trip Around the World," an exhibit of pastel-charcoal drawings by John S. Postovit, on display June 25 through July 25.

The public is invited to an opening reception with Postovit from 6:30 to 8 p.m., June 25 at the gallery.

A North Dakota native now living in California, Postovit is an avid traveler, and the images in his show were inspired by his visits to Italy, England, Bulgaria, Thailand, Australia and other locales. Not merely a travelogue, his large, intensely colorful compositions dance with what he terms "augmented reality." Colorful inner tubes and zeppelins surrealistically float through tourist-postcard landscapes that have been playfully cropped and boldly designed.
