Welcome to the Department of Business Information Technology (BIT). We are pleased that you are interested in the degrees offered in the department. The BIT department offers educational opportunities in Management Information System and Business Education in both the undergraduate and graduate career fields. We are proud to offer these opportunities on campus and online extending our student base to the world.

Management Information Systems (BS)
A Bachelor of Science Management Information Systems (MIS) graduate is educated in the use and importance of information as an essential and valuable resource in business decision making processes for all organizations. Students are also educated in how to develop the critical, analytical, quantitative, and computer skills necessary to address complex business problems. It is our mission to prepare our majors for responsible MIS roles with the public and private sectors.

To accomplish this, the student's program includes courses in three areas:

  • The university's general education, in order to obtain an appreciation of the arts and sciences.
  • The business core, in order to obtain a sound knowledge of management and administration, as well as the social, economic, legal, and political environments of organizations.
  • The major, in order to provide in-depth study of management information systems.

Business Education (BSE)
A Bachelor of Science in Education--Business graduate reflects knowledge of the business education curriculum and is certified /licensed to teach business subjects in grades 7-12. The BSE-Business graduate is a reflective decision maker who applies skills of critical thinking, analysis and creativity in developing, delivering, and assessing the business curriculum.

Master of Science - Information Systems (MS)
The Master of Science in Information Systems (MSIS) program emphasizes emerging technology and collaborative environments, culminating in a consulting experience. The MSIS program is designed to prepare a technologically sophisticated business executive who will forecast systems needs, develop information systems infrastructures, manage existing systems, and communicate interdepartmentally.

Master of Education - Business (MED-B)
The Master of Education - Business (MED-B) is a collaborative degree with the Teacher Education Department and the BIT Department. The MED-B prepares teachers who will be reflective decision-makers. Decision-making builds from a knowledge base. From that base, teachers are able to draw conclusions, make inferences, internalize concepts, and act. Our mission is to provide opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors that will allow them to deliver optimum learning experiences for diverse pupils in changing classroom environments.
