Michael Duffy arrived in North Dakota, after spending twelve years at the University of Otago, in New Zealand, where he was Associate Professor of Marketing. While there, he also served as Associate Dean and as a member of the University Senate. Prior to this appointment, he served in the US Air Force, and worked as a petroleum geologist, an environmental analyst, and in the retail trade. After earning an undergraduate degree in Geology, Dr. Duffy received an MBA from California State University – Dominguez Hills. He later earned a Ph.D. from the University of Southern California, where he majored in International Marketing and Logistics, with a minor concentration in Finance and Business Economics.
In addition to teaching at the University of Otago, he taught at the University of Southern California in Los Angles, and at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He has now taught twenty-one different courses, and is proud of his interdisciplinary focus.
Outside of Universities, Dr. Duffy has organized and led numerous business seminars, to existing businesses, to small or newly formed businesses, and to the general community. In addition, he has served as a consultant for over twenty-five business and government organizations, both in the USA and in New Zealand.
Dr. Duffy has written seven books and manuscripts, and has published over twenty articles in refereed journals and proceedings, ten articles in business periodicals, and has addressed over thirty conferences. He also is an occasional book reviewer for four major publishing companies, serves on the editorial review boards of three journals, organized and chaired a marketing conference, and served as track chair for two academic conferences. Finally, Qualifications Authority, which is the accreditation agency for tertiary-level education in New Zealand.
