Prior to 2007, a faculty member’s teaching was evaluated in two ways. One of these was evaluation by the department chair, and the second was evaluation by the students. These two methods will continue, but in the spring of 2006, the MSU faculty voted to add faculty peer reviews to the process of evaluating teaching. Any faculty member who wishes to advance from the rank of Assistant Professor to the rank of Associate Professor must present the results of a peer review to the Promotion Committee.
This Committee was formerly named the "Committee of 12." The Committee of 12 began its work in Fall 2006. In the Fall 2008, this committee assumed the current name.
