The Scandinavian Heritage Park becomes a sparkling wonderland with the advent of winter and the warm glow of Christmas lights. The lighting is a labor of love by Bob Sando and Bob Whetter. Sando is a Scandinavian Heritage Association volunteer who spends countless hours testing, preparing and stringing lights for visitors and residents to enjoy. There are 250+ strings of lights, each of which Sando painstakingly tests. "It takes me days to debug them. After all the strings are in working order, it takes an additional 7-8 days putting them up." Sando is a veteran of Christmas decorating. In addition to the time he spends on the park’s lighting, he also helps with some of the University’s displays used at Oak Park during the holidays.
