Red Cross Softball Tournament

Students participating in the first-year learning community - To Play or Not to Play - assisted in the coordination and management of the 13th Annual Co-Ed Softball Tournament to benefit the American Red Cross. Students collected donations, sold tickets for door prizes and gift baskets, sold and served food items, umpired, and assisted Ms. Robyn Gust, faculty member in one of their FYE classes, coordinate this experience. Over $2600 was raised to benefit the Mid-Dakota Chapter of the Red Cross.

Project Inspiration: The students who assisted in the coordination of this tournament were able to inform individuals in this region about the needs of the American Red Cross while honing skills that will be essential in their professional career. Using this service-learning experience not only has helped raise money for a regional chapter of the American Red Cross, but also has allowed the students to understand their role in the community.
