Wild about Volunteering! First-year students at the Roosevelt Zoo

First-year students at Minot State University volunteered over 800 hours in August and September, assisting the Roosevelt Park Zoo in numerous project, which included landscaping the bird pond, moving straw and hay for the hooved animals, maintaining the vegetation in the giraffe and zebra enclosures, raking, and seeding areas for grass.

Project Inspiration: After volunteering at the zoo last year, CETL knew there was still a need for volunteers. The zoo has minimal staff and unless they have larger groups who volunteer, many of the projects on the to-do list get pushed to the bottom. This was a great way to do a lot of those projects in a short period of time. When you have 350 people chip in and volunteer, it is amazing the work that can get accomplished. And who doesn't like to take a trip to the zoo?
