Swedish journalist explores American election process

The Minot Area Council for International Visitors has developed local programming for Eric Erfors, Stockholm-based editorial writer for Expressen, one of Sweden’s largest newspapers, as he visits the Minot region today through Thursday (Sept. 26-19). Erfors is interested in United States elections, focusing on the state and local levels. He will also discuss media careers with Minot State University students.

As part of the local program coordinated by MACIV, Erfors will meet with North Dakota Secretary of State Al Jaeger, explore the use of social media in a state senate campaign and learn about initiated measures, focusing on the proposed tobacco tax and the Minot City Council transition. On Wednesday (Sept. 28), he will also discuss careers in journalism with MSU communication arts students. This discussion, which is free and open to the public, will be in Aleshire Theater at 3 p.m.

As a 2016 Transatlantic Media Fellow with the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C., Erfors will spend three months traveling throughout the U.S. The fellowship’s purpose is for European journalists to learn about America and Americans outside of the usual east coast media centers of New York and Washington, D.C.

“MACIV has welcomed visitors from all over the world who are interested in many aspects of rural life. Comprised of members from Minot State University and the wider Minot community, MACIV has received extensive accolades from visitors for its hospitality, generosity, and professional programs,” said Joseph Jastrzembski, MACIV president. “An all-volunteer group, MACIV’s members show a broad range of local, state, national and international experience in the professions, government, education and the arts.

MACIV has been headquartered at Minot State since 1992. For questions, contact Jastrzembski at joseph.jastrzembski@minotstateu.edu or 858-3322.
